About this event

Supported by the Royal Institute of Philosophy. Speaker Professor Jonathan Wolf f What duties do we have to future generations ? I t is often assumed that some form of “ saving ” is morally required. However, this question is an instance of a more general question - what does any generation owe to future generations > I want to raise the question of what past generations may have owed to those living now and whether they met their obligations. This then may provide insight about how we today should think about our obligations to the future. Jonathan Wolff (FBA) is a political philosopher who works on questions of inequality, disadvantage and social justice. He has published a book City of Equals (OUP 2024) co-authored with Avner de-Shalit. Emeritus Professor in Philosophy and Public Policy at the Blavatnik School of Government , and was former ly Senior Research Fellow in Philosophy and Public Policy at the School and a Supernumerary Fellow at Wolfson College. He was the inaugural Alfred Landecker Professor of Values and Public Policy having been appointed Blavatnik Chair in Public Policy at the School in 2016. Prior to joining Oxford, Jo was Professor of Philosophy and Dean of Arts and Humanities at UCL.
